In late 1985, he feuded with Krusher Khruschev over the Mid-Atlantic Title and won it in January 1986. He then feuded with Black Bart whom he lost the title to.
He formed a team during the summer of 1986 with Nelson Royal.
In late 1986, he moved on to the Central States territory where he won the title from Jerry (the King) Lawler and feuded with Bulldog Bob Brown and Bill Dundee.
During his time in NWA Mid-Atlantic, he married Tully Blanchard's valet Baby Doll.
